WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR TECHNOLOGY, MEDIA, AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS (TMT) IN 2019?

VTT Global > Blog > News Blog > WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR TECHNOLOGY, MEDIA, AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS (TMT) IN 2019?

Every year, we must need healthier and advance technology which shape the next round of revolution. Demand of technology will be at peak in 2019 which can foster the corporate trends, similarly the demand and role of the social media and telecommunication cannot be ignored and underestimated. Technology has changed the social and business environment, no matter whatever is the size of your company, business or enterprise, technology has always tangible or intangible benefits.

The biggest medium which will act as a bridge is the rollout of 5G in 2019, which will be a multiyear journey, the foundations will begin this year. One of the most anticipated mobile technology platforms, 5G will be the connective tissue for the Internet of Things (IoT), autonomous vehicles, and mobile media.

Some of the top trends in technology, media and telecommunication ‘’TMT’’ of the near future 2019:

Artificial Intelligence (AI):

The telecom industry is at the epicenter of technological growth, led by its mobile and broadband services in the Internet of Things (IoT) era. This growth is expected to continue, with Technavio[1] predicting that the global telecom IoT market will post an impressive CAGR of more than 42% by 2020. Interestingly, what would be the driver for this growth? Artificial intelligence (AI).

4 AI Trends that will Transform the Telecom Industry in 2019:

  1. Artificial Intelligent applications are transforming the way telecom operators’ function, optimize and provide services to their clients

With one research[2]forecasting that 20.4 billion connected devices will be in use worldwide by 2020, more and more CSPs are jumping on the bandwagon, recognizing the value of artificial intelligence applications in the telecommunications industry.

2. Network optimization

Some popular AI solutions for telecoms are ZeroStack’s ZBrain Cloud Management, which analyzes private cloud telemetry storage and use for improved capacity planning, upgrades and general management; Aria Networks, an AI-based network optimization solution that counts a growing number of Tier-1 telecom companies as customers, and Sedona Systems’ NetFusion, which optimizes the routing of traffic and speed delivery of 5G-enabled services like AR/VR.

3. Virtual Assistants:
Conversational AI platforms — known as virtual assistants — have learned to automate and scale one-on-one conversations so efficiently that they are projected to cut business expenses by as much as $8 billion in the next five years.

4. Predictive maintenance:

  • Preventive maintenance is not only effective on the network side, but on the customer’s side as well. Dutch telecom KPNanalyzes the notes generated by its call center agents, and uses the insights generated to make changes to the interactive voice response (IVR) system. KPN also tracks and analyzes customer behavior from home — with their permission — such as switching channels on their modem, which may signify a Wi-Fi issue. Once identified, KPN proactively follows up, driving greater successes for technical teams.

5G Technology:

5G is after all becoming the reality in 2019.  It`s totally just around the corner and very soon 5G will be accessible to clients/consumers. According to Cristiana Amon`s Qualcomm `president the software for 5G is being tested and 5G will be started in the first half of 2019.

CCS Insight predicts that initial commercial 5G services could appear in US, but China will quickly take the lead after early deployment in the developed market like Korea, Japan and US.

According to GlobalData, mobile 5G subscribers in MENA will expand rapidly to 15.8 million in 2023, up from 0.1 million in 2019. Eight countries are expecting to start 5G operations during 2019-2021. Mobile operators in the MENA region will invest $34 billion Capital Expenditure (Capex) between 2018 and 2020.

This would be one of the best new technology of telecommunication field and it is among the top tech trends for 2019. With the help of 5G technology, massive data transfer, videos streaming would be much faster than the current 4G. Imagine when the speed of 5G is 100 times faster than the 4G and you can download full movies in seconds; off course this 5G technology will reinforce the business affairs.

Chinese phone manufacturer company said that their plan is to release the first 5G smartphone in 2019 and Samsung is also expecting the same. Some of the major breakthrough of 5G would be:

  • Self-driving car may be the biggest achievement-
  • Sending data between one another, and communicating with traffic lights, road sensors, aerial drones, which mitigates the risk of vehicles accidents.
  • Medical surgeries could be possible with the help of robotics – lessen the error margin.

All these could be possible after the launching of 5G.

According to CCS Insights we are expecting 280 million 5G connection till 2021 globally.

Internet of Things (IoT):

Currently; internet is the basic necessity of the life, not only the necessity but a sound and fast internet 5G WiFi can connect the ultra-devices with internet. So, Internet of Things (IoT) is the near future and many ‘’things’’ are being built with WiFi connectivity, which means these can be connected through internet.

  1. INTELLIGENT HOME GOES MAINSTREAM

Expect an uptick in the availability of IoT home products as the intelligent home goes mainstream. The expansion of smart home products available to consumers from mainstream household brands will overtake leading consumer brands.

  1. FLEXIBILITY WILL BE INCORPORATED INTO DELIVERY OPTIONS

Increasing flexibility will be incorporated into delivery options making the experience more personalized.

Smartphones with GPS positioning data, and visibility and tracking of assets using low-cost sensors could allow delivery to customers anywhere, not just at specified hardcoded locations like a home or office.

The deployment of sensors and better connectivity in hospitals will mean hospital personnel will have real-time visibility into the location of their equipment and orders.

  1. SMART CITIES WILL EVOLVE

Smart cities will evolve from delivering only cost reduction benefits such as LED lights or better waste management, to better citizen engagement and revenue stream opportunities.

This could include red light violation detection, Wi-Fi hotspot, 5G services, smart towers, crime detection and analysis, and information broadcasts. These developments can be achieved using technologies such as image recognition and machine learning (ML).

  1. ENERGY EFFICIENT BUILDINGS

Energy efficient buildings will benefit from optimized heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, and more efficient lighting.

Smart buildings will increasingly move towards space optimization, object detection for safety, security, wayfinding, and asset tracking, with the help of advanced technologies like location services, image recognition vision and ML.

Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR):

These two new technology Virtual Reality (VR) and Augment Reality (AR) are developed by using the computer graphics. Though its gaming technology but this can be used for the purpose of:

  1. SKILLED AND PROFICIENT PLAYER:

One can get trained for real life, people can practice and become proficient – such as flight simulators for pilots. Health care organization can utilize the VR tech to train surgeon, Virtual reality training minimize the error in critical task. Virtual environment create solution to problem.

  1. SOCIAL MEDIA:

The next big social platform and connect more than a billion people – a software “social beta” will help people to watch online video services. With vTiming, consumers can sit with his best three mates and can enjoy a campfire feeling imaginary live backdrop.

  1. SPORTS AND MUSIC:

Through new technology – one can see football match and concert in a virtual world. New VR technology trick your brain into believing you are somewhere else in a fantasy world. Roaming around with imaginary reality.

Through virtual reality app an animated scene can be created and this can be seen in all directions. Google and Samsung are the major player in virtual reality while the main purpose of AR application to use your smartphone or tablet camera to show you the real and virtual world. The hybrid reality is the additional technology which combines the VR and AR. This technology introduces the new gadgets for fun and amusement.
